S. Brent Plate

S. Brent Plate is Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at Hamilton College. His teaching and research focus on how ways of seeing affect ways of being religious. In his most recent book, A History of Religion in 5½ Objects, Plate argues that religion must be understood in the first instance as deriving from rudimentary human experiences, from lived, embodied practices rather than from abstractions and ideologies alone. Plate is Managing Editor of Material Religion: The Journal of Objects, Art and Belief.  Follow @splate1
