Elena Romashko

Elena Romashko was born in Belarus. She finished her Magister degree in Orthodox Theology and Religious Studies at the Belarusian State University in Minsk. In 2012, she earned a Masters degree in the international M.A. program “Intercultural Theology” at the University of Göttingen. Her thesis was about the physicality of female worship in Orthodox Churches and she was invited to continue her study in Göttingen as a Ph.D. candidate. She is currently researching vernacular religion in post-Chernobyl Belarus.

Research Interests: Vernacular Religion, Orthodox Christianity, Women's Agency in Orthodox Churches, Body Practices, Anthropology of Religion, Disability Studies.
