Rachel McBride Lindsey

Rachel McBride Lindsey is Associate Director of the John C. Danforth Center on Religion and Politics at Washington University in St. Louis. She received a PhD in Religion from Princeton University in 2012 and is writing her first book, A Communion of Shadows: Religion and Photography in Nineteenth-Century America. This project approaches photographs as material objects that brokered visual habits, religious imaginations, and vocabularies of self, community, and nation. Her research and teaching explore intersections of visuality, religion, and identity politics in the United States, both historically and into the present.
